Gollop was born on 3 April 1897 in Croyden, Great Britain. He moved to London, ON, with his parents, Harry and Helen. Before successfully enlisting on 29 October 1915, Pte. Gollop had attempted to enlist in January at the age of 17. Upon his successful enlistment, he joined the 70th Canadian Infantry Battalion. He arrived in Great Britain on 5 May 1916, and was then transferred to the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles (Québec Regiment) in France. He was shot in the chest and died in No. 3 Stationary Hospital in Rouen, France, on 20 September 1916.
He is commemorated on page 92 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
