George Noble worked in London, ON, as a car cleaner for the Grand Trunk Railway, and lived with his wife Mary and their two young children, George and Marion. Born in Great Britain on 2 April 1882, he had moved to Canada in 1907. He enlisted on 25 November 1915 in the 135^th Canadian Infantry Battalion. After a year’s service in England, he was posted to the 1^st Btn. in France in 1918. He survived a gunshot wound to his leg in early April, but would not be as lucky a second time. On 21 October 1918, Pte. Noble died of wounds to his arm and stomach. His tombstone reads, “He went at the call of duty & nobly died that other might live.”

He is commemorated on page 478 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
