Born in Birkenhead, Great Britain in 1895, Mason immigrated to Canada and established in London, ON, to work as a glass maker. It appears he lived with a guardian named Johanna McKay at 234 Clarence St. He signed his attestation papers for service overseas in Valcartier, on 21 September 1914. Mason was serving near Givenchy, France, with the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion in Belgium when he was reported wounded, then declared missing, and finally killed in action on 30 April 1915.
He is commemorated on page 28 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
