Private Hamilton was born in London, ON, on 3 April 1891 and lived at 813 Richmond St. with his mother Susie and father Joseph. He worked as a bank clerk until he volunteered for the CEF on 7 September 1914. Pte. Hamilton served with the 15th Canadian Infantry Battalion. He was killed by shellfire on 24 April 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres. Letters of condolence from fellow soldiers began to reach his parents in May, however official records continued to list him as alive until June 1915.
He is commemorated on page 17 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber in the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill).
