Richard Armer was born on 5 February 1887 in Ulverston, Great Britain, as was his wife Mabel. However, the couple only met and married in Ontario, settling there in London. He provided for their children by working at candy manufacturer McCormick’s, and he volunteered in the 7^th Fusiliers Regiment. Much to Mabel’s dismay, Richard’s sense of duty led him to enlist on 16 January 1916 in the 142^nd Canadian Infantry Battalion. Sent to France at the end of April 1917, he served in the 1^st Btn. Armer was reported wounded and missing on 6 November 1917 near Passchendaele. His wife sought news from his friends for months, finally receiving confirmation of his death in June 1918.

He is commemorated on page 192 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
