Stanley John Creighton was born in London, ON on 7 May 1892. He was the only child of Winifred Creighton of 435 Oxford St. Creighton attended Queens University and studied to be a teacher. On 12 April 1915, he joined the 38th Canadian Infantry Battalion in Montréal, QC, and was transferred to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry upon arriving in France in July 1915. Sometime between 2 and 4 June 1916, Pte. Stanley Creighton was killed in action in Belgium during the Battle of Mount Sorrel. His distraught mother refused to accept the Memorial Cross she was offered in recognition of her son’s sacrifice.
He is commemorated on page 72 of the First World War Book of Remembrance, (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
