William Henry Yorick was born in London, ON on 13 December 1874. He married Isabelle Cockburn in 1903 and lived with her at 47 Euclid Ave. Before enlisting for the war, Yorick worked as a machinist and also served three years with the 28th Perth Regiment. He enlisted with the 4th Pioneer Battalion on 3 April 1916 and arrived in Great Britain in September of the same year. His flat feet led him to be transferred to the Canadian Corps Composite Company and then the Canadian Labour Pool. On 31 August 1918 Pte. Yorick was hospitalized with dysentery, and died there on 9 September. Formerly an active member of St. James Westminster choir, he is commemorated by this church.
He is commemorated on page 527 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
