The Gaspé Peninsula History, Legends, Resources, Attractions was the inaugural publication of the Department of Highways and Mines to promote the region and its attractions. The dense descriptions and legends that fill the 260 pages of the booklet were a useful companion to assist new arrivals in their discovery of the region. It was not likely to attract many tourists, rich in text and heavy in detail, but a useful document for those exploring the territory. It was published in English and French language editions with impressive print runs of 100,000 and 50,000 respectively.
The cover illustration shoes a solitary vehicle hugging a gently curving shoreline roadway approaching a shoreline village. The rich colour of the front and back covers contrasts with the many black and white illustrations and photographs that populate the inside pages.
