The poetic names of the Haute Gaspésie have a special beauty, l’Anse Pleureuse, Manche-d’Épée, Grande-Vallée and Petite-Vallée, Grand-Étang and Rivière-au-Renard. Geography is everywhere and has inspired the name of almost every village.
Elsewhere in Québec, the villages are most often sanctified by their association with a patron saint. But this ritual is less present in the Gaspésie. And even when it can be found, the holy association takes on geographical resonance, like in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.
