Newspaper ad: Reward offered for body
Newspaper:
Western Star, Corner Brook, NL, December 4, 1942.
This newspaper ad was in the Western Star a month after the sinking of S.S. Caribou. The ad indicated that Dr. M.F. Ronan of Nova Scotia was offering a reward of $100 to anyone recovering the body of his son John Ronan, who was lost in the sinking. The ad then provided a physical description of John Ronan and stated that his dental records are available to aid in identification of the body.
The ad provides an indication of the terrible impact of the sinking on the families of the lost passengers. The bodies of most victims of the sinking were not recovered and this added to the pain felt by families and close friends of the dead.
