S.S. Caribou was built in the Netherlands in 1925 for the Newfoundland Government Railway. The steamship was used to carry passengers and freight between Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and North Sydney, Nova Scotia between 1925 and 1942. It also served as a coastal ferry around Newfoundland and Labrador.
This undated photograph belonged to Violet (Dowding) Cluett and was donated to the Maritime History Archive at Memorial University of Newfoundland by her daughter Ruby.
