S.S. Caribou was a merchant steamship of 2,222 gross registered tons. This photo shows the launching of the ship on June 9, 1925. It was built by the New Waterways Shipbuilding Company in Schiedam (near Rotterdam) in the Netherlands. The ferry was built for and operated by the Government of Newfoundland, as part of the Newfoundland Railway’s fleet of coastal ferries.
