The ferry M.V. Taverner joined the Canadian National (CN) Marine ferry service in 1962. The ferry operated on the Cabot Strait run and around the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador until 1997. The vessel was named in memory of Benjamin Taverner, the Captain of the S.S. Caribou, and his two sons Harold and Stanley, who all perished when the vessel was sunk by a German U-boat during World War II.
