Once the theoretical and practical parts of the course were completed, trainees received a badge in lieu of a diploma. Above, various badges used from 1969 to 1971, from left to right: initiator, monitor, instructor and director.
The Fédération des Clubs de Montagne du Québec (FCMQ) was founded in 1969. In 1971, the FCMQ changed its registered name to the Fédération Québécoise de la Montagne (FQM). Then, around 1996, the non-profit organization finally became the Fédération Québécoise de la Montagne et de l’Escalade (FQME). The FQME is an association of people and organizations with an interest in outdoor activities and rock climbing. It is recognized and supported financially by the government of Québec as a National Recreational Organization (Organisme national de loisir – ONL).
