This photograph of June 16, 1943, shows one of the City of Verdun’s salvage collection sites, on a lot between the Auditorium and the Hospital. Several other salvage collection sites existed in the city, including several at Verdun shops.
Various objects such as cloth and aluminium items were gathered. The City sometimes organized events to encourage residents to donate salvageable material. The concert Aluminium Night attracted over 15 000 people in Woodland Park and organizers collected an impressive amount of material.
On August 6, 1941, the City of Verdun also organized Canada’s first city-wide door-to-door salvage collection.
