At first, Malartic Gold Mines’ private camp was quite barebone. However, once exploration got underway in 1927, it grew considerably. With the construction of its ore-processing plant in the mid-1930s, Canadian Malartic had to accommodate a larger workforce. It replaced the rudimentary log buildings with modern housing. This became the nucleus from which the town of Malartic evolved.
