The Beginnings of Roc-d’Or

At the beginning, one named G. St-Louis owned at least part of the claims at Roc-d’Or. This changed in 1936, with an amendment to the Mining Act. Buildings other than those needed for mining operations were henceforth banned under threat of forfeiture. Mr. St-Louis did not evict the squatters from his claims and had to forfeit his rights to the government.
