William B. Hetherington, Malartic’s First Mayor (From 1939 to 1946)

William B. Hetherington was chosen as Malartic Mayor in 1939. He was also Construction and Maintenance Engineer at Canadian Malartic Gold Mines. In 1934, among other tasks, he had supervised the construction of the company’s village. He was one of the fiercest opponents of the squatter village of Roc-d’Or.
