Dr. Frederick Banting graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto (UofT) in 1917. In late 1920, Dr. Banting developed a theory on a way to cure diabetes. In the summer of 1921, he and a team of researchers began working in UofT’s laboratories. Their research led to the discovery of insulin. Dr. Banting received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the medical breakthrough.
