WCRI Summer Student: So I had several professors in my high school and university who encouraged me to pursue careers and opportunities in STEM. The most notable experience I would have to say is the team at the Women’s College Hospital Research Institute. They were mentors and role models for me. The team was overwhelmingly female which was really interesting and enlightening for me because working and seeing other women who worked as scientists and who were leading innovative medical research was really impactful for me. Just to sort of experience that as an undergraduate student and to see the kind of opportunities that are ahead. And you know I felt very welcome as a woman because the research they are doing is related to me and I felt a personal connection. It was my one really impactful experience you know that I did at the end of my undergrad. And its sort of stayed with me and you know this interest in women’s heath stayed with me.
