Questions from the “Part I Examination for the Registration of Nurses in the Province of Ontario,” October 8, 1952
To become a registered nurse in Ontario, student nurses were required to pass a two-part written exam that tested their knowledge of nursing. To help students prepare, nursing schools required their students to attend lectures throughout their two to three-year nursing education program.
At Women’s College Hospital, nursing students attended classes in the hospital classroom and at the University of Toronto. Courses introduced students to nursing principles, practices, history and ethics. Students also completed courses in science, such as anatomy and physiology, chemistry and microbiology.
