Charlotte, Class of 1969: […] one of the special treats for the graduating class was of course not only the, the tea party, but also we had lunch at the, the estate of the board of directors. It was a beautiful place, and they had horses and we were encouraged to… to ride them and they had somebody to help you onto the horse. And I think there were three of us just sort of trotting around the paddock and my horse decided that it didn’t want me on it and it went under a tree and tried to scrape me off. [Laughs.] And I had to just sort of lie down, hang on to the horse’s neck as much as I could. I still got scraped. And, you know, here you are in your best bib and tucker. I don’t know whether there was any damage to that, but there was nothing about being scraped off under a pine tree. The pine smelled good, but I did have scratches when I went back. [Laughs.] I remember when I was having my bath that night I could feel those scratches. But it was a… it was a delightful idea and I remember it was a beautiful lunch. It was a lovely day, small wonder people wanted to go horseback riding. And I think it was like a buffet. Possibly, a barbecue buffet. I don’t remember the details, but I thought “My, it’s so nice to be out in the country and to have this as a treat.” And, really, it was one of the highlights of graduating.
