Shipyard plans for German Type IXC U-boat
Deutsches U-Boot-Museum
Building plans for a Type IXC U-boat from the A.G. Weser shipyard in Bremen, Germany. The plans are for U-160, which was built in 1939.
The plans show the submarine’s outer hull and pressure hull, torpedo tubes, crew accommodations, control room, 2 periscopes, conning tower, diesel engine room, electric motor room, torpedo and battery storage, deck guns, and watertight hatches.
Type IXC U-boats were 77 metres long and displaced 1232 tons submerged. Two diesel engines provided 4400 horsepower on the surface, while two electric motors provided 1000 horsepower when submerged. They carried enough fuel for a long-distance patrol lasting several months.
Both U-513 and U-518 were Type IXC submarines.
